GOLF COURSE DESIGN

 

Despite a struggling golf industry, a golf course developer had commissioned the design of a new golf course, and the designer needed information on why the industry was struggling and what the market would look like in the future. What were the player and industry trends? The designer thought he knew why, but he wanted to be sure he was going in the right direction.

A national study revealed that people in the game found a round takes too long; the game is hard; maintenance budgets are through the roof; and there are no places for beginners to play while they learn. Taking into account the state of the industry and the future trends, the designer was able to confidentially design a course that would meet the needs of the players, the developer, and the resort golf operations management.
