A developer of a fad fashion accessory for elementary school children was becoming increasingly worried that a once lucrative fad could soon fizzle, and came to Isotov Information Services looking for ways to extend their appeal with customers. What strategies could he use to keep his product on the radar of his

“pint-size” clients and their parents?

 

We located research on similar fad products; stories on their rise and fall, strategies that worked, and thoughts from corporate leaders that might be useful to our client. One glaring strategy rose up: capitalize on the fad by branching out; develop a product into a brand. Our client is now developing more “silly” things to avoid being a one-hit wonder. He’s also licensed his product name for use on other children’s products like towels, bedspreads, and school supplies. By using social media, and interacting with his “followers”, more product ideas and improvements are being generated every day
